Jul 2012 – Hele Luna In Uahi Ma Sola (Go Up In Smoke At Sola)

Well that 103-degree heatwave left things a little hazy in Chi-town, but not quite in the same way we’re planning on igniting things in July. For inspiration, we cued up a movie marathon that would make Matthew McConaughey blush. Dazed And Confused to kick it off, followed by Pineapple Express, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, and, of course, the mother of all puff-puff-pass flicks: The Big Lebowski. The thought was slow to emerge, but eventually it hit us: with Chicago’s mayor enacting big changes regarding decriminalization, let’s put forth a culinary homage to all that is fashionable about the greenest of the greens.
 
sola restaurantSo hemp it was. Executive Chef Carol Wallack and Chef d’ cuisine Bob Bagley have rolled together three herb-alicious plates for the Hemp Prix Fixe this month. The main attraction here — no, we’re fresh out of Purple Kush. But how about Hemp-Sesame Seed Crusted Salmon served with Creamy Polenta and Sake Brown Butter? If that doesn’t have your mouth watering… you probably have cottonmouth. Regardless, this month’s Prix Fixe might just be the best way to savor the flavor of questionable legalities without any of the subsequent run-ins with the 5-0.
