Summer has arrived, with a vengeance. Man, that crept up on us pretty quick. I mean, it feels like it wasn’t more than a week ago when we were all staring at each other with exasperated looks, wondering aloud, “Is it summer yet? Now? How about now?” Well, here it is. Chicago’s funny like that — nothing is forewarned or preempted, you just get what you get when you get it.
And honestly, we’re better for it. There’s a kind of zen to the Chicago seasons, a philosophy that rubs off on us all. When it’s time for winter, we’re fine with it, because it’s just that time. It’s not like it’s a surprise — it shows up every year, without fail. When the sun rages at North Ave Beach, that’s cool too, because, hey, I guess it’s summer now. The suddenness of change has taught us go to with the flow, which we proudly do like the hippiest of hippies.
So if the mojo is right, now that we’re enjoying the sudden summer, join Executive Chef Carol Wallack and Chef de cuisine Bob Bagley for a decidedly chilled out sola meal. This easygoing mentality doesn’t show up in the strict attention to detail we put into every plate, but it does give us the flexibility to source whatever’s in season and enjoy it while it’s fresh.
We know you had other plans tonight. But it’s too nice not to kick it on our patio for a few hours. Embrace the change – it’s good for you.
